Skimmerhorn Winery

Skimmerhorn Winery is a family-owned estate winery set on the benchlands of the Creston Valley in BC's Kootenay region, named for the rugged Skimmerhorn mountain range that defines its terroir. Established in the early 2000s with its first vines planted in 2003, the winery has been owned by Janek Guminski and Ryan Burgis since 2017. All of its fruit is grown across the twenty-acre estate, and the wines are made in small batches that reflect the cool climate, alluvial soils, and distinct micro-climate of the valley.

The focus is on cool-climate aromatic whites such as Pinot Gris, Ortega, and Gewurztraminer, with estate Pinot Noir as the signature red. Skimmerhorn does not currently produce a standalone Chardonnay; instead the grape is folded into its popular white blends. The Kootenay wine region, centred around the Creston Valley and Trail corridor, is one of BC's hidden gems, where protected valleys, rich alluvial soils, and dedicated growers produce small-lot wines with a strong sense of place. A seasonal patio overlooking the vineyard and the farm-to-table Skimmerhorn Bistro round out a visit.

The estate is located along 1218 27th Avenue S, with hours Thu-Mon 11am-5pm (seasonal).
